I get this question all the time, “Ronna are you a decorator or an Interior Designer?” When I first graduated, from Marymount University in 2009, I was pursuing my second Bachelors degree because I wanted to be taken seriously as an interior designer and I also wanted to be a member of the Trade. Those goals were met, but what I found out in the real world was that most people really don’t know the difference between a decorator and a interior designer. Here’s the rub, an interior designer can decorate, however, that is only one small facet of the services that we offer. Decorators are great and are highly valued, just turn on HGTV and do some research on your favorite designer or HGTV personality. You will find that over 75% of them are not formally trained as an interior designer.
You see it all the time on flip shows, real estate shows, singers, rappers, that basically anyone with a good eye can decorate and so can you. In hindsight, I could have taken a few classes at a local community college and no one would be the wiser. As a client, you may need assistance with picking paint, which a decorator or an interior designer can both do as well. However, as an interior designer, I am going to go deeper into the science of design and color and tease out each of the 7 elements of design that I incorporate into all of my projects. I also provide you with tools and information that you can use to start the process of working with a decorator or an interior designer by offering a workshop that will save you lots of time, energy and money teasing out the questions that we need to ask you including the most important question of all…what is in your wallet? To ease the awkwardness of getting all up in your project finances, I created a workshop that was designed to interact with you via interactive video so that you are prepared to work with a decorator an interior designer or start the process on your own.
